New Game; First Giveaway of the Year!

The coding gorilla that we trained to help with some of the technical aspects of the radio station loves word games. It’s one of the ways she increases her vocabulary and she is an avid learner. She is a complete beast at Words with Friends; and, out of pity, has been known to let her human counterparts at the station win occasionally.

Anyway, while pursuing mastery of the English language, Amy the coding gorilla discovered a fun type of word game that we’d never played before; but it felt very familiar. It’s a rhyme game and it feels like the kinda thing that’s fun until you realize the grown-ups may have tricked you into learning. We like the game so much here at the station offices that we’ve decided to overlook the trickery and share the game with our listeners! As an added bonus and to compensate for the possible side-effect of learning new words and using up the precious space on your biological hard drive (we don’t like to impose); 48201Radio will be rewarding listeners that win by giving out prizes!!

Prizes!!

As a matter of fact, when we are feeling extra special, these prizes will include cash rewards!! 48201 Radio; puttin’ money in ya pockets! That’s right, be the first to call in with the correct solution to the word puzzle and you win!

How does it work? We’ll go live on the station at an announced time and give the clue. At a later time, we will take live calls on the air for people to submit their solutions. The first correct caller wins!

The game? Simple. First, wee will give a clue statement describing the solution; “obese feline” for instance. This will be followed by the number of letters in each of the words of the solution, like this: “3 and 3″. Oh yeah, for this version of the game all solutions will be two words. The example solution? Fat Cat.

First game coming up this week!

More New-ness

New music and artists are all over the station this week! We are featuring the Trapper’s Alley – Pros and Cons, the 28-track Mixtape by up-and-coming hometown favorite, Boldy James right now and the kid is fire. While spitting some of the grittiest goon anthems Detroit has heard in awhile, Boldy smoothly works in material for the ladies as well giving an overall “Real-Talk” feeling throughout the mixtape. There is heart in these tracks. You can catch Boldy on both the Slow Down Sunday mixes and our normal rotations as well as several new compilations put together by Detroit Natives Drummer B, Nick Speed, 48201 Radio Records, The Wolf Pac, and more! Stay tuned in!!

New Music, New Contests

New Tracks are being added to the rotation daily, including a new special addition to the Slow Down Sundays playlists. Hir-O’s Freakstrumentals collection just recently dropped and it is the TRUTH. A fusion of funky beats, classic love songs and some amazingly tantalizing spoken word; this mixtape is keeper for all you lovers out there.

On another note, check back frequently and make sure to tune into the station as giveaway season has officially begun!! 48201 Radio will be running a series of contests and competitions and giving away prizes and money to the winners! Keep listening for details!

Detroit Urban Legends

…And no, we aren’t talking about musicians. This is A Haunted House right here in the Corridor (Mid-Town to the yuppsters)! Sitting on 3901 Cass at Selden, The spot will spook up the night from 7-11 for two more weekends. They have special rates for groups ten or more; so crew up and come get the shit scared out you or laugh at some moron’s lame attempt. If you dare. Cue the evil rock music.

What’s so special about this haunted house? The proceeds are going to help homeless women and children at Cass Community Social Services. That’s right; you’ll be helping women and babies by having some fun. Oh, and the aforementioned moron? He or she is donating their time completely free. The Haunted House is run, maintained and advertized by volunteers. For the women…. and the babies.

Learn more about the women and babies at: www.casscommunity.org. Get more info about the Haunted House here: www.DetroitHauntedHouse.org.
